Become a Cancer Center Trainee Member

As a trainee member at The University of Kansas Cancer Center, you will have access to a wide variety of career growth opportunities ranging from research support, funding and networking.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center that includes: the University of Kansas Medical Center campuses in Kansas City, Wichita and Salina, the University of Kansas in Lawrence and via consortium agreement, the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Individual students (undergraduate, graduate, or medical), postdocs, residents and clinical fellows from the above institutions may apply to be a trainee member. Trainee members must have an ongoing interest in cancer-related disciplines, conduct cancer-focused research and/or be engaged in oncology-related clinical training. 

Those meeting the definition above will be granted Trainee Membership to the KU Cancer Center for one year. Trainees must update their membership annually. There are no membership fees.

• Access to the cancer center Grants Development Office.
• Access to grant writing support workshops.
• Access to training and career development opportunities.
• Access to internal and external funding opportunities.
• Inclusion in cancer center communications, meetings, retreats, symposiums, seminars and other events.
• Lunches with distinguished speakers and cancer center senior leadership.
• Eligible for trainee awards.
• Eligible to be selected for research highlights or recognized for honors and travel awards.
• Experiences in summer cancer research programs.

• Active participation in trainee and wider cancer center activities.
• Adhere to the NIH Data Sharing Policy as applicable, including registration of all necessary and appropriate clinical trials in the Clinical Trials.gov registry.
• All Trainee members must acknowledge KU Cancer Center support as appropriate in publications and in presentations/media coverage, etc. Include the following acknowledgment in appropriate publications: Supported by the NIH/NCI under award number P30CA168524 and used the [name of the CCSG shared resource(s) if applicable].
• Provide all requested information regarding scholarly activities and accomplishments in a timely manner to the KU Cancer Center Office of Cancer Career Development administrative team for inclusion in the yearly Cancer Center Support Grant reports and submissions.
• Provide career progress updates, even if/when no longer affiliated with KU Cancer Center via a short annual REDCap survey.

KU Cancer Center, in its sole discretion, may terminate the participation of any Trainee Member at any time.
