Medical center academic degree programs

The Office of Graduate Studies offers more than 50 degree and certification programs, encompassing several disciplines leading to careers as healthcare clinicians, researchers, administrators or educators.

Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (IGPBS) provides the first-year core curriculum for PhD graduate students interested in becoming biomedical researchers. At the beginning of year 2, students select a thesis and research advisor. Depending on the faculty member chosen, a student will receive a PhD in 1 of 8 doctoral degree granting programs. Students admitted to the IGPBS receive an annual stipend as well as a tuition waiver, with financial support offered throughout their PhD program.

School of Nursing

The University of Kansas School of Nursing, with nationally ranked academic programs, prepares hundreds of students each year for successful nursing careers, as clinical nurses, advanced practice nurses, educators, leaders, administrators, scholars and researchers. The school dedicates expertise and resources toward building healthy communities and advancing the nursing profession, through practice, research and education. It has built an international reputation for outstanding academic programs and as a place for innovative research.

School of Health Professions

The University of Kansas School of Health Professions has 8 academic departments, comprising 25 healthcare fields of study and offering degrees ranging from the bachelor's degree to advanced graduate study, including several doctorate programs.

University of Kansas School of Medicine

The University of Kansas School of Medicine integrates excellent education, scientific discovery, outstanding clinical programs and dedication to community service. The only medical school in Kansas, it is acknowledged as a leader in training primary care and rural physicians. In addition to its commitment to educating the physician workforce of tomorrow, the school is an emerging leader in biomedical research and the health of the public.

Biostatistics Graduate Program

The Biostatistics Graduate Program offers innovative MS and PhD programs in biostatistics as well as an MS in applied statistics and analytics to help meet the ever-increasing demand for statisticians and biostatisticians needed to take leadership roles in academia, government and industry.

Cancer Biology

The Department of Cancer Biology is a basic science department at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The purpose of the department is to build a strong team of basic researchers with a collaborative and translational mindset that will discover fundamental characteristics of cancer cells leading to novel therapeutic and preventive approaches that reduce cancer incidence, morbidities and mortality. This program draws upon expertise from cancer researchers throughout The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
