Your Proton Therapy Care Team

Where you receive proton therapy matters, and our powerhouse team of proton experts has more than 115 years of combined proton therapy experience all under 1 roof. These 30 proton experts include nationally and internationally renowned radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists and proton radiation therapists. Together, these specialists will create a treatment plan comprising the exact dose, beam angles and patient positioning required to deliver the proton dose to your tumor.

Each of our proton experts was hand-selected from across the US to join the Proton Therapy Center at The University of Kansas Cancer Center, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and 1 of fewer than 60 nationwide. The expertise and experience that come from being part of an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center is important to ensure patients receive the right treatment to achieve the best possible outcome.

After contacting The University of Kansas Cancer Center, your initial meeting will be with our dedicated proton nurse navigator. The nurse navigator will gather your medical information and images, talk with physicians about the best treatment options for your particular diagnosis and schedule you for a consultation with our multidisciplinary team of specialists. In addition to a radiation oncologist, the team may involve a child life specialist, financial counselor, nutritionist, onco-psychologist and social worker, among others.

During the consultation, we will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan to fit your specific needs. The cancer treatment plan we develop may include proton therapy alone or in combination with other cancer treatments.
