John Einck, M.D., FASTRO

Dr. John Einck is a radiation oncologist at the University Kansas Health System and a professor at the University of Kansas Medical School. He specializes in the radiation treatment of prostate and other genitourinary malignancies, gynecologic malignancies and soft tissue and bone sarcomas. His treatment philosophy is that cancer care requires a team with the patient as the captain. He can advise and educate and perform whatever treatment the patient decides but ultimately the patient is the boss. He also believes in individualizing treatment for what is right for the cancer and fits the patients’ own goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Dr. Einck has been practicing radiation oncology for over 20 years and has extensive experience in specialized treatment techniques including brachytherapy, proton therapy as well as conventional radiation treatments and has published extensively on the use of radiation therapy as a treatment option. He has served as a residency program director for many of those years mentoring the future generation of radiation oncologists. He continues to teach residents and students here at the University of Kansas.
After growing up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Dr. Einck went to medical school at the University of Minnesota and did his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Washington in Seattle. In his free time, he currently serves as the president of Radiating Hope; a charitable organization that accepts donated radiation therapy equipment and refurbishes it for use in low- and middle-income countries most of whom do not have the financial resources to offer this live-saving treatment. He also enjoys travel, cooking and learning foreign languages including Spanish and Portuguese as well as spending time with his family.
